Our organization mourns the loss of our friend, partner, and champion of community, Public Defender Jeff Adachi, who passed away suddenly on Friday evening. Jeff leaves a rich and enduring legacy after his three decades of service to those most in need. He could always be counted upon to support the community, our young people and their families. In developing the MAGIC (Mobilization for Adolescent Growth In our Communities) initiative in San Francisco’s Bayview and Fillmore Districts, Jeff lifted up a community-identified need for there to be safe space to address the impact of trauma, poverty, and violence on children and youth. The B’MAGIC andMo’MAGIC collaboratives helped forge meaningful partnerships between community residents, faith-based organizations, city and county agencies, nonprofit organizations, schools, and other stakeholders. We are proud of our work with Jeff and his team at the Office of the Public Defender. His accomplishments are legion, as is the number of those he touched with his work and his unceasing energy; our hearts are heavy and we are missing Jeff today, as we will for some time to come.
