DCYF works with community-based organizations, city departments, San Francisco Unified School District and other partners to provide a variety of children, youth and family services. The department funds over $80 million in services such as after-school activities, violence prevention and intervention (VPI), youth workforce development, education, health and wellness, family resource centers, early childcare and education. With funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), DCYF is able to sponsor the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). SFSP and CACFP are designed to offer nutritious, free meals to youth when school is not in session and after school hours during school-year months, respectively. DCYF works in partnership with local meal vendors to administer the program throughout the City of San Francisco. Both programs are regulated by USDA and the State of California Department of Education (CDE).
The Summer Food Program Monitor will work at the Department of Children, Youth & Their Families under the guidance of the Child Nutrition Coordinator. The Summer Food Program Monitor will be responsible for monitoring 8-10 summer lunch/snack sites for compliance with established USDA and State regulations, and for administrative support for the Summer Food Service Program office.
Example of Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to,
• Serves as liaison between DCYF and Summer Lunch/snack sites.
• Ensures food site personnel maintain records and required documents.
• Completes 1st and 4th week site review reports for all assigned sites by the required deadlines, and visits assigned sites on a weekly basis to monitor compliance and picks up necessary paperwork.
• Suggests corrective actions for problems that arise at sites, ensures that sites take corrective actions to troubleshoot problems, and reports issues to supervisor.
• Conducts training of site personnel as needed to ensure compliance.
• Ensures each site maintains supplies at each site.
• Helps prepare meal count spreadsheets and enters data in computer.
• Performs outreach activities in area surrounding lunch sites.
• Meets weekly with other Summer Food Program Monitors and supervisors.
• Keeps track of necessary travel logs, photos, and submit necessary documents in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned relevant to Summer Lunch/Snack operations.
Up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Must be available during lunch and afternoon hours, usually from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This is a temporary job (start work date is Monday, May 15 to Friday, August 25, 2017).
1) Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination); AND
2) Six (6) months (equivalent to 1000 hours) of verifiable experience working in an office providing administrative support, OR for a community-based organization.
• Sensitivity to work with diverse ethnic and cultural-based organizations and individuals.
• Excellent organizational, record-keeping and communication skills.
• Bi-lingual is a plus.
• Effectively complete assigned tasks with little supervision.
• Willingness to visit all Summer Lunch/Snack sites in all areas of San Francisco on public transportation or may provide own vehicle (with good driving record).
