Position: Assistant Sunday School Teacher: PRE-K (0-5) Classroom
The First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco (www.uusf.org) has two open
positions. We have one permanent, part-time position (Sundays, 9:30-12:30) and a substitute
position (same hours) as needed.
Hours: Sundays 9:30-12:30 on-site
Salary: Starting salary is $15.00 an hour
About us: We are a Sunday School at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco
(UUSF), located on Franklin at Geary. Our program is play-based. We have a child-centered
environment designed to prompt children into awareness of the Church as a place where they
are valued just as they are. We seek opportunities to introduce developmentally-appropriate
UU perspectives in common interactions. We offer parents a safe respite place. We present
children with opportunities to become familiar with each other and adults in the SFUU
community. We have fun.
Our Pre-K class is staffed by a Lead Teacher and 1-2 Assistant Teachers. Class attendance
averages 6-10 children each Sunday with lower attendance in the summer.
We seek experienced candidates who are gentle, patient and work well in a team setting.
Demonstrate ability to listen so children will talk, and talk so children will listen.
Recognize and respond to individual child’s temperament and characteristics.
Work cooperatively with parents, teachers and staff.
Exhibit understanding of the developmental characteristics of children 0-5 years old.
Ensure provisions of nurturing routines during meals, diapering/toilet learning and
Demonstrate awareness of entire group, including number and ratio.
- Successfully complete job training, medical and background check.
- Maintain safety standards based on industry and church practices.
- Follow classroom schedules as needed.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Applicants must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
- Our classroom is only accessible by stairs.
