Improving police and community relations one step at a time.

Through the Community Safety Initiative internship with the Mayors officer of San Francisco, a group of young men of color ages 15-19 were asked to work on a project throughout the summer to help bridge the gap between police officers and local communities. After several hours of brainstorming, this cohort of young men decided to create a short film documentary. Everything from the filming to setting up the interviews was done by this group of brilliant young men. We hope that you enjoy this video and really take into consideration.

Sep/23/2015 Don’t Forget – SCSF Gig Opportunity Fair This Week – 9/23/15

Posted by cwilliams • September 23rd, 2015

This event is brought to you from Success Center SF, Western Addition Career Center.

GIG OPPORTUNITY FAIR

WANT TO WORK FOR YOURSELF?
WHEN:      September 23, 2015, 4-7 PM
WHERE:   West Bay Conference Center
1290 Fillmore Street at Eddy,
San Francisco, CA 94115
Some industries may fade away or become obsolete but often they’re replaced by the
NEXT BIG THING. One recent change for the better we’ve seen has been the rise of the “gig economy.”
Because of companies like Lyft, Uber and Etsy, the industry is exploding. To help you figure out how you can make the gig economy work for you we’re having a “Gig Opportunity Fair” this September 23, 2015 from 4-7 at the West Bay Conference Center in San Francisco.

What is the Gig Economy

Generally speaking, a “gig” is work that’s done on a contract basis. It’s not a job. You’re not an employee. You’re working on a self-employed/contract basis as a 1099 contractor. Usually, you sign up by using a simple app on your computer or phone.

Gig Opportunities Let You:
          • Set your own hours
          • Determine your own rates or allow you to make money based on your schedule
          • Work from your home (or the coffee shop on the corner)
          • Use your own vehicle
SCSF Gig Opportunity Fair
The Gig Opportunity Fair will have companies that offer online projects for: administrative assistants, bookkeepers/accountants, programmers, designers, and more.

Or if you prefer working away from your desk, use their app or website to find gigs in other fields. Caregiving, housekeeping, delivery/drivers, and errand running are among some of the numerous gigs you can find online.

In addition to the exhibitors, the fair will offer workshops designed to help you understand these new opportunities and set you up for success.

Some of the companies / training services that have already confirmed their attendance include: Deliv, MEDA , Wonolo, Breeze, BAVC, Everlance, Sherpashare, Saucey, Peers, TaskRabbit, Honor, and Redtower Marketing.

Don’t Miss This Event
Once again, the Gig Opportunity Fair will be held September 23, 2015, 4-7 at the West Bay Conference Center, 1290 Fillmore St, San Francisco CA. Meet with representatives from locally-based gig opportunity companies, attend workshops that discuss the financial pros and cons of 1099 work, learn how you can get training in tech and other fields that are “gig economy friendly.”

To learn about these jobs/events and more, visit our
career center at:

1449 Webster St. San Francisco.

(415) 549-7000

Center Orientations are held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday andThursday at 10:00am.
