San Francisco YMCA Mock Trial Program

I want to invite you, your 8th-12th grade youth and families to attend our Mock Trial Information session, which takes place on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 6PM at Buchanan YMCA. After the informational session, the program runs every Thursday from 6-8PM at Buchanan from March 5 – May 7th EXCEPT for SFUSD Spring Break week.

Each participant will work closely with an actual attorney from Costin Law Group. Dolan Law or Gordon-Creed Kelley Holl & Sugerman. The program will dissect a criminal case, and participants will spend seven weeks preparing for their role as either an attorney, witness or suspect in the mock trial case. Also, the mock trial group will practice their presentations at Dolan Law Firms or the University of San Francisco Law School Mock Courtrooms before executing the trial in front of U.S. Magistrate Jacqueline Corley, a former classmate of President Barack Obama.

This is our fourth year operating the Mock Trial program, which is an extension of our Youth & Government program, but the first year we’ve included 8th graders. We’ve witnessed great outcomes among program participants including one who gained a summer internship at Dolan Law Firm because of her participation in our Mock Trial program.

Attached please find the timeline, flyer, and last year’s group photo. If you’re interested in participating in this program, please contact Jeff Lincoln ( 415-931-9622 or jlincoln@ymcasf.net) by Thursday, February 26.
