The purpose of this email is to call our community to action in the aim of re-building the original ‘CALLES’ (Streets) Collaborative. We believe it is extremely important to have a community-based collaborative that ensures outreach and referral services to high-risk populations in the Mission District and neighboring communities. It is our core belief that only a self-determined, community-led effort will end violence in our community. CALLES has been the heart of street intervention work in the Mission for over 30 years.
The original CALLES community program emphasized youth leadership development, cultural and political awareness, and positive activities. Since 1980, CALLES offered individual youth and family advocacy specialized Intensive Home Based Supervision advocacy; street based outreach, as well as late night diversion programming. It is our intent to return this to the community in full.
We are asking all interested in supporting this CALLES movement to meet in front of Instituto Familiar De La Raza (IFR) 2919 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94110 on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH at 6:00 PM.
We will have a short ceremony and walk together in unity to Centro Del Pueblo for a meeting and a return of CALLES.
