The young men of BMC have held a series of sessions focusing on issues impacting young men of color and their educational progress and success. Engagement with the criminal justice system contributes greatly to young men of color not completing high school and accessing secondary education opportunities.
The Legal Forum will give young men practical advice and open a dialogue between young men of color and representatives of organizations/systems like yours which can help change outcomes for young men of color.
The theme for the Legal Forum is in fact Changing Outcomes. This facilitated roundtable discussion will do the following.
1. Enable young men to better understand their rights.
2. Explore the dynamics at play in the relationships between criminal and juvenile justice systems and young men of color.
3. Teach young men how to avoid engagement with the police and juvenile probation and what occurs if/once that happens.
