I am writing to you because Impact Bay Area is offering a self-defense workshop specifically for LGBTQ people for the first time, and Zoe Polk at the San Francisco Human Rights Commission suggested I contact you.
Impact is a unique type of self defense instruction that uses an instructor in a padded suit to recreate realistic assault scenarios. This allows students to learn to manage their adrenaline and to hit a moving, trash-talking human target full force. And, because we know that this can be intimidating, our instructors have hundreds of hours of training to create a supportive environment in classes, and to keep students safe both physically and emotionally.
The training is incredibly powerful and effective–even 20 years after taking a class from us we have had people report that they have used the techniques successfully!
Impact Bay Area is committed to making the LGBTQ community safer, and want to see this training reach as many people as possible. I am attaching a flyer with more details. If you could share this with folks at Collective Impact and anyone else you think might be interested, I would really appreciate it. Class is October 19, 20, 26, 27.
And of course, feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.
