INTRODUCTION

 

The current position is located at General Services Agency, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Street & Environmental Services.

Appointment Type: Temporary- Exempt Full-Time. These positions are for as-needed (on-call assignments), for up to a maximum of 1040 working hours. In order to be considered for a permanent appointment, incumbent will be required to successfully compete in a Civil Service Examination.

Under direction, plans, assigns, documents, and supervises the work of laboring crews, General Assistance, or Sheriff’s Work Alternate Personnel engaged in street cleaning work, construction and maintenance work. May be required to participate in actual work supervised and drive a vehicle to and from work sites with crew and equipment.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:

This is the first level supervisory class in the laborer series. It is distinguished from the General Laborer class by its supervisory duties.

SUPERVISES:

Supervises the activities of General Laborer and Alternative Work Participants.

Example of Important and Essential Duties:

1. Making daily assignments and schedules;

2. Demonstrating and training crew in the use of tools such as shovels, rakes, hoes, brooms, green machines, for cleaning streets & sidewalks;

3. Training personnel in use of graffiti removal products and methods;

4. Holding tailgate safety meeting; completing reports & correspondence;

5. Attending supervisor safety meetings, follow safety procedures,

6. Ergonomic practices, use of street barricades, cones, protective equipment and responsibility for safety of crew; responding to priority and emergency service requests by adjusting crew’s duties & schedules;

7. Ability to use a 2 way radio;

8. Communicating accurately and clearly over a radio;

9. Holding counseling sessions with employees, initiating disciplinary actions, investigating & resolving complaints, completing performance evaluations;

10. Dealing professionally & courteously with the public & cooperating with others in the performance of duties.

11. Performing other related duties as required.

Nature of the work involves exposure to a high risk of physical injury to the employee and constant vigilance to public safety; exposure to disagreeable working conditions, such as working in rain, cold or being exposed to raw sewage; confined space entry; and possibly working weekend shifts, nights and emergency overtime.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Two (2) years of verifiable experience as a General Laborer in Construction, (Letter of verification required and must be submitted with application. Please see VERIFICATION SECTION below) OR

2. Two (2) years of verifiable experience in class 7514 General Laborer in the City service; (Letter of verification required and must be submitted with application. Please see VERIFICATION SECTION below) AND

3. Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license. (You must submit a copy with your application)

INTRODUCTION

The current position is located at General Services Agency, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Urban Forestry/Street & Sewer Repair.

Appointment Type: Temporary- Exempt Full-Time. The position is a backfill for a current employee who is on leave. The duration of the assignment is not known. In order to be considered for a permanent appointment, incumbent will be required to successfully compete in a Civil Service Examination.

Under direction, the Cement Finisher Supervisor II supervises the activities of subordinate staff engaged in a variety of masonry finishing and maintenance projects. The essential functions of this job include: supervising staff; planning and coordinating the work of subordinate supervisors, cement masons and related personnel; inspecting completed work and work-in-progress; preparing cost estimates; keeping statistical data and preparing reports; maintaining schedules and time rosters; requesting and recommending the purchase of new equipment and materials; monitoring and checking the condition and maintenance of tools and equipment; providing training to staff; attending and conducting safety meetings; responding to inquiries and complaints; and coordinating work with other craft supervisors.

Example of Important and Essential Duties:

1. Supervises staff by directing and evaluating assigned activities.

2. Plans and coordinates the work of subordinate supervisors, cement masons, tile setters, plasters, bricklayers and related personnel involved in masonry finishing and maintenance projects.

3. Inspects completed work and work-in-progress to ensure compliance with American with Disability Act (ADA) and federal and state building and construction codes.

The videos should adhere to a few basic guidelines (>2 minutes, must answer the question, be appropriate for all audiences & only 1 submission per cycle). The videos are evaluated every 2 weeks and a winner is selected based upon how creatively they answered the question, their use of graphics, music, visuals and if it helps to convey the importance of helping  youth with barriers find employment. Each winner will receive a $25 gift card and be entered to win a new iPad!

Program details:

 

The Healthcare Bridge Program (HCB) is a yearlong academic program providing 17 – 21 year olds with targeted career guidance, academic support, postsecondary education preparation, and paid internships in the healthcare field. After the program, participants will be better prepared to enter into a healthcare certificate or training program at the community college level.

 

Program Information

 

City College of San Francisco Courses: Participants enroll in training courses for entry-level healthcare jobs in phlebotomy, community health work, certified nursing assistant (CNA), and home health aide/personal care giving.

 

JVS Workshops: JVS offers basic academic skills (reading, writing and math) and computer workshops tailored for the healthcare field.

 

Healthcare Internships: Participants partake in work readiness training and paid internships. JVS staff works closely with healthcare employer partners and internship supervisors to provide ongoing support and ensure that participants build relevant and industry-specific skills.

 

Internship Employers: California Pacific Medical Center – St. Luke’s Campus, San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium, UCSF Medical Center, Mission Neighborhood Health Center, On Lok, and 3rd Street Youth Center and Clinic.

 

Eligibility

  • 17 – 21 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Qualify as low-income
  • 7th grade reading and math level (Students must take CCSF placement tests before starting program)
  • Available 30 hrs/week for training, courses, and internship
