Hey folks-

Just a reminder that this Friday is our full coalition meeting of the Children’s Funding Community Coalition:

Friday, June 28th

@ Children’s Council: 445 Church Street (between 16th and 17th Streets)

Attached is a memo that Margaret has created based on the May 3rd conference, which can be the basis for our conversation on Friday.  We will spending some time during our meeting discussing this, as well as looking back at the current legislation (passed in 2000), to prepare us for the next few meetings.  The current legislation is also attached.

And please save the dates for the next few meetings where the coalition will be discussing in depth some themes and possible recommendations for the Children’s Fund legislation, focusing on three topics (laid out in the attached memo): (1) Governance and Accountability; (2) Services and Planning; and (3) Administration of the Fund.  The idea is that at the July, August and September meetings, recommendations will be developed and finalized in October/November.

Upcoming Coalition Meetings:

Friday, July 26th, 9:30-11:30

Friday, August 30th, 9:30-11:30

Friday, September 27th, 9:30-11:30

Friday, October 25th, 9:30-11:30

And a note from Margaret regarding the memo:

Dear Colleagues,

I know we are all looking forward to continuing our efforts to provide the best possible feedback about the re-authorization of the Children’s Fund.  Attached is a detailed document I prepared outlining the issues and recommendations we have discussed in our many months of meetings, and at the May 3 conference.  Please note that this is very much a draft document created for discussion purposes only.  It is a long document, and will take some work for you to review.  However, it is not possible to make meaningful recommendations without knowing the content of the document.  Also attached is the language in the current legislation in case you want to consult it.  It would be great if you looked over the whole document, but in preparation for the upcoming meeting it would be particularly important to review the current goals in the legislation alongside the guidelines that reflect the coalition’s work to date.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  See you on June 28 at 9:30.
