SFSJ+ Weekly Job Vacancies 6/24/2013

Hi Community Partners,

It’s yet another exciting Monday and here at MatchBridge we are busy trying to find youth summer jobs in San Francisco. This week we are spotlighting 3 unique positions that could be amazing opportunities for the right youth!

*PUMA is doing its final push to hire Store Sales Associates for America’s Cup. They are seeking high-energy individuals who have experience in a customer service environment. Encourage youth to express interest soon as the event is almost here!

*BayView Opera House is looking for a Children’s Cooking Instructor. The BayView Opera House runs an annual summer program and they are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic person who has experience with healthy cooking & children. They want someone to start IMMEDIATELY, so tell youth to visit the SFSJ+ website for more specific date/time details.

*Prather Ranch Meat Co is hiring for a Delivery Driver. This position is a great opportunity for those who live in Oakland and want to provide great customer service to various distributors around the Bay Area. Those with a clean driving record, a strong directional sense of SF/Oakland and some delivery experience would be a great match.

This week’s resume tip of the week was how to write detailed descriptions for a variety of experiences. For many youth, this is their first position, which can often be discouraging. We emphasized the importance of listing a wide variety of experiences such as: leadership positions, trainings, club memberships and volunteer opportunities. They were encouraged to thoughtfully describe their daily duties, responsibilities & accomplishments (and also not to be too modest!). Below is the example that was  provided to them:

Volunteer Tutor

ABC School District                     05/2013- 08/2013

  • ·         Assisted students in developing a better understanding of homework & assignments
  • ·         Coached students in identifying additional resources
  • ·         Corrected/reviewed assignments and gave suggestions for improvement
  • ·         Provided positive feedback and support
  • ·         Achieved a 75% improvement rating for all tutored students

Thanks for being a supportive partner and helping to get 6,000 youth jobs this summer. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us! Have a happy week!

Best Regards,
