JOB SUMMARY
The Engineering Intern will assist engineering and construction professionals on a variety of SamTrans and JPB/Caltrain capital improvement projects throughout all phases of project delivery:  planning, technical design and plan review, and construction engineering.  The Engineering Department also oversees the projects of other public agencies and utilities on the railroad property.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The Engineering Intern shall be currently enrolled as a college student and shall have completed at least two years of course work towards completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Architecture.  Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* AND DUTIES•:
* Provides essential support to staff by assisting with improvement projects which include SamTrans buildings and bus maintenance facilities, Caltrain passenger stations, and railroad track and system rehabilitation.
* Assists staff with preparation and maintenance of facility and station designs, standards, plans, specifications, and other project documents.
* Assists construction managers and staff with field inspection and survey work.
• Works on a variety of job assignments, both in the office and the field.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
This position will work under the direction of an Engineering Manager, Project Manager, or Senior Engineer, who will establish goals and objectives and evaluate performance.
SELECTION PROCESS MAY INCLUDE:

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM MISSION:
The Internship Program gives students the opportunity to apply the skills that they have learned in the classroom.  In addition, the program gives students the opportunity to consider a career in the transit industry.  The interns will gain invaluable experience by partnering and learning from our team of professionals.
