The Marcus Foster Education Fund is currently recruiting fathers and a Program Manager for its first ever Fatherhood Initiative (FI). Please share both announcements in your networks!!
The FI is committed to effectively engage, encourage and support an initial total of 32 fathers and their children through a series of workshops in the following key areas:
- Critical Thinking and Cultural Affirmation
- The Vital Importance of Fatherhood
- Child Development
- Educational Planning for fathers and children
- Legal Barriers
- Healthy Relationships
At the completion of the workshop series, fathers and their families will be celebrated at a graduation ceremony. The fathers and children will also participate in a fun, educational field trip! This is a dynamic opportunity for dad’s to gain knowledge from experts in the field to decrease barriers faced by a cross section of fathers and also receive monetary incentives for participation. The Marcus Foster Education Fund (MFEF), Oakland’s Local Education Fund, is the first organization of its kind in the U.S. MFEF was created in 1973 by and later renamed after Dr. Foster, a prolific urban education reformist renowned throughout the U.S. Dr. Foster was certain that students could attain high academic achievement and strong moral character when administrators, teachers, parents, and the community held high expectations for the achievement of all students.
