JOB DESCRIPTION: PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Salary: $20/hr. plus full benefits

Schedule: March-June 2013: 30 hours a week during M-F, 9-5 business hours; 40 hours a week starting July 2013

Organization Description: Brothers on the Rise (BOTR) empowers boys and young men of color (BYMOC) to achieve individual success, develop healthy relationships and contribute to a more just and equitable society. Together with parents, teachers and providers, we help develop boys into responsible, peaceful, caring and productive young men. This is accomplished through gender-responsive, culturally appropriate direct services as well as systems change achieved through training and technical assistance for partner institutions to implement programs for BYMOC and/or more effectively serve this population.

BOTR is a fiscally sponsored project of the nonprofit organization, San Francisco Study Center. Our administrative office is in Fruitvale at the Spanish Speaking Citizen’s Foundation and our youth programs take place at Oakland public schools and parks sites. Technical assistance partners include schools, nonprofits and public sector agencies.

Position Summary: This position will assist in coordination and delivery of both direct service and technical assistance work. Our direct services focus on manhood training for boys aged 8-14 delivered through our Brothers, UNITE! out of school time life skills and leadership development program, and our Lift a Brother Up career development program for high school aged young men interested in professional development within human services, youth development, and particularly the emerging field of practice with BYMOC. Taken together this is a cascading mentoring model that we both deliver and can build capacity for others to implement as well.

Our technical assistance work involves training, curriculum development, coaching, consulting and convening on the above models, as well as our Brothers Helping Brothers mental health model, and other related projects that empower partners to achieve their targeted outcomes with BYMOC. Beginning in summer 2013 we will facilitate an annual 3 day training institute for men and young men to effectively deliver BYMOC work throughout the Bay Area, which will lead to a 1 year cohort model for participants including monthly meetings and on-going BOTR support.

The core competencies for this position are experience delivering gender-responsive, culturally appropriate, therapeutically delivered and youth development grounded services with BYMOC; and project coordination/management experience with youth work, including BYMOC.  Experience with training and technical assistance is a plus, though not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (in related field preferred)
• A car, car insurance and a clean driving record (the position requires an ease of movement between the home office, program/partner sites, important meetings, etc.)

• At least 1 year experience in project coordination, staff management and/or administration
• Passing a live scan criminal background check and drug test, submitting a negative TB test
• Commitment to at least 1 year with BOTR and a desire to help grow the position and grow within the organization
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organization, cross-cultural & conflict resolution skills
