Fall 2012 BEETS Cohort Begins!

On  September 13, 2012 a new group of teen joined the BEETS (Band of  Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens).  During an orientation  at the Hayes Valley Youth Center everyone put their thought down about  the guiding principles of the BEETS, including respect, kindness,  safety, responsibility and fun! After committing to these by signing  their names on each sheet, the group took off for Koshland Park and  Garden where they were introduced to best garden practices, toured the  garden, and partook in a few fun ice-breakers.  See more photos here.

Roasted Pepper Marinara and Homemade Pasta

We cook a lot at CommunityGrows!  After all, there are a lot of  vegetables in our gardens and the kids love to eat!  So one Monday  afternoon in July, Kennard Smith, a terrific personal chef, came back to  help kids at Hayward Rec Center make roasted pepper tomato marinara and  fresh pasta.  See more photos here.
