What to Expect

Breakthrough Conversations – Morning Training (9am-12pm)
Learn all about our plan to have hundreds of persuasive conversations around the state. We will…
  1. Discover effective ways of engaging our friends, family, and allies in conversations about inclusive schools, same-sex marriage, and deeper integration of our families into the broader social fabric of American life.
  2. See breakthrough conversations in action and acquire the skills necessary to have your own persuasive conversations with people you know. It’ll be a great opportunity to practice those effective messages!
  3. Work on your own personal plan to have these conversations – YOU have the power to define how that happens.

Inclusive Schools – Afternoon Dialog (12:30pm – 3:00pm)

After lunch parents, teachers, principals and people interested in deepening the dialog are invited to stay and build on the Breakthrough Conversation skills to advocate specifically for LGBTQ inclusive schools. We will….

  1. Strategize about how to integrate family diversity curriculum, LGBTQ policies, anti-bullying efforts, and gender issues into the classroom, the administration and the home.
  2. Work together to coalition build and use the latest resources to bring more visibility and equity for all families experiencing marginalization into our educational systems.
  3. Share models that are currently in effect around the country showing real results in reducing bullying and increasing teacher and parent comfort levels about including LGBTQ families and identity within school communities.

Breakthrough Conversation Project Youth Panel

This event is hosted by the Family Equality Council

We all know to achieve full LGBT equality, we have to start by having conversations to help everyone understand us. Many of us in the LGBT community need to have tough conversations with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors who are struggling to understand us.

What: As part of our commitment to changing hearts and minds, Family Equality Council, in partnership with Our Family Coalition, is holding a Youth Panel to give conflicted voters, and supporters in our community, the chance to hear the true life experiences of teens and young adults in LGBT families.

Who: Please bring anyone in your life who may be struggling to fully accept LGBT issues, as well as community allies. With your help, we can create a world where all families are protected, respected, and celebrated.

When: Sunday, November 18, 12-2pm

Where: 518 Valencia St., San Francisco

Our Family Coalition promotes the equality and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer families with children. We foster community leadership in advocacy efforts that promote social justice.
