Scholarships from CalCPA – Applications due Thursday, October 4 – Apply today Every year the Peninsula Silicon Valley Chapter of the California Society of CPAs gives ten to twenty scholarships to students who are planning to pursue a career in accounting or taxation.  In past years CSM students have received more than half of the scholarships awarded.  The scholarships range from $250 to $1,000, and the Chapter has an award ceremony with dinner for the winners and their guests. Every strong candidate has a good chance of being selected.  Students in our CPA Exam Preparation courses (ACTG 161 – 165) and tax classes (ACTG 171 – 176) are especially encouraged to apply. The award ceremony will be at CalCPA Student Night (Thursday, October 25, see below).   Applications must be received in the CalCPA office by Thursday, October 4.  You may hand deliver your application to the CalCPA office (at 101 and 92) if the due date is near (go to CalCPA, 1800 Gateway Drive, Ste 200, San Mateo, CA 94404).  See the Scholarship flyer below for more information.

California Society of CPAs presents “Student Night”
The Peninsula Silicon Valley Chapter of CalCPA will host Student Night, the big event for Fall semester.  At Student Night you will meet staff members from CPA firms that may be the best match for CSM students, hear a presentation from a distinguished guest speaker, and enjoy a buffet dinner.  And Student Night is free! At Student Night the winners of the chapter scholarships will receive their awards.  See the Student Night flyer below for more information.
You are not required to apply for the scholarship to attend Student Night.  All current and former CSM accounting and taxation students are encouraged to attend.

How to register
Student Night if free, but seating is limited.  You must register in advance to attend Student Night. To register click on the link below, then click on the Student Night link under Chapter Events (right side of screen). You may either register online OR click on the link to download the event flyer, print the flyer, and mail or fax the form.  If you register online you must first join CalCPA, then register for the event. Membership in CalCPA is free for undergraduates (select Student Membership) and free the first year for students with a bachelor’s degree, $50 per year thereafter (select Candidate Membership).
Student Night is networking, not recruiting
Student Night is not a recruiting event.  The CPA firms will provide students with information on accounting careers, such as the steps to start a new career in accounting or tax, areas of specialization, and the daily activities of a CPA.  Bring your questions, but not your resumes.
