I’d love to ask that you forward the attached program information and flyers to help BAVC recruit for our Next Gen youth programs, which launch early October. We are currently accepting applications online: www.bavc.org/nextgen.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The *Bay Area Video Coalition* is excited to announce the launch of our *2012-2013 Digital Pathways program*. Digital Pathways is a free, yearlong after school media arts program that teaches predominantly low income young people ages 14-24 media training and soft skills as a success pathway into college and careers.
Students who enter Digital Pathways join a small class (1 instructor and TA to 10 students) twice a week from October – May where they receive professional training in one of six tracks (see below), along with monthly soft skills (resume and cover letter writing, mock interviews) as well as access to frequent panels, field trips, and guest speakers.
*This year, students can apply for one of six tracks: *
– Beginning or Advanced Audio Production
– Beginning or Advanced Video Production
– Storytelling for the Web: Remix Film/Code
– Bridges (18-24 year olds/CCSF students + program alumni)
Digital Pathways also offers a parent engagement component, requiring parents to participate in semi-monthly forums around college admissions/retention, STEM, financial aid and scholarships in order to further encourage their child’s pathway to college and careers.
After graduating at the end of May, students launch into industry-based, paid internships from June-August, gaining work experience, mentors, and a broader network of contacts. BAVC staff coordinate the internship match making, which have landed students internships at companies like Mozilla, Present Creative, Sega, and Atomic Fiction; as well as local start ups and nonprofit organizations.
Accepted young people will work with trained media professionals, learn how to create high quality projects and participate in job training workshops. Graduates of the program will have the opportunity to put their newfound skills into action as they go to work in paid internships during the summer!
Digital Pathways is highly competitive and selective – we are currently accepting applications and will do so until our September 16 deadline. Please view the attached flier for more information. We can either provide copies for you to distribute or make visits in person for announcements to youth.
Our facility is located in the Mission district at 2727 Mariposa St. We are just minutes from 16th street BART and directly across the street from the 27 MUNI stop on Mariposa and Bryant.
Thank you for spreading the word! Warmly,
