Japanese Cultural Community Center of Northern California

Issei Memorial Hall

1840 Sutter St., Ste. 201

San Francisco, CA 94115

The fold-a-thon is a fun activity for youth older than 10, with all children reaching for their personal best; participants are able to help others while helping the community and themselves. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be provided during the event. Also, every participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

Our goal is to help raise at least $30,000, to fund your local youth program and those still suffering from the horrible events in Northeastern Japan in March, 2011. We hope that each youth oriented nonprofit participating is able to bring 20 folders and a chaperone to help monitor and assist their program’s participants. If each folder raises $300, we will achieve our goal. We’re hoping to make this fold-a-thon great this year and bigger and better in the years to come! So, the more contributions we are able to raise, the more successful we’ll be at achieving our goal. Thank you very much for your participation!

Rules:

  1. Participants may start collecting pledges as soon as they receive the pledge sheets. Reminder: Pledge sheets need to be turned in to the Program Directors prior to the fold-a-thon day, Sunday, August 19, 2012. Program Volunteers/Chaperones will be responsible for ensuring the pledge forms are available during the event.
  2. However, participants may not ask for pledges from any of the staff members of a participating organization. The Crane Project is actively seeking companies to make help boost the relief effort.
  3. Each sponsor making a pledge should write their own name, pledge per crane, maximum pledge, or flat donation. Participants may collect the pledge in advance (for flat donations) and keep them themselves or turn them into their Program Director to be held until all are collected. We ask you return all collected pledges and/or donations from fold-a-thon sponsors by August 29, 2012 and submit all of the funds to The Crane Project on August 31, 2012. A certified check will be delivered to your youth program along with a general audit of the event by September 7, 2012. Please have checks made out to The Crane Project. The porportion of your proceeds will reflect the percentage of funds collected from your group. Additionally, your youth program will be listed as on our donation page as an option for donors to make as the recipient of their donation. Youth programs will receive 50% of the net proceeds from this event and all Crane Project activity until August 31, 2012(unless your program is selected specifically by a donor on our website we will send out a monthly report and check for the rest of the year). The Crane Project will retain twenty percent to cover expenses and costs associated with hosting this and another event dedicated to Japan.
  4. On fold-a-thon day, each folder will have two hours for folding 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Each crane should take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to fold. Each participant will be issued a form, which will be marked by a volunteer each time a crane is completed and a basket or bag to hold their cranes. Thereby, keeping track of the number of cranes folded. At the end of the event the number of Cranes will be double checked and verified on the pledge forms with the number of folded cranes.

We look forward to all our participants having a great time! For questions or concerns, or to volunteer, email us at info@thecraneproject.org or call Robert Kim at 415.948.3151.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
