Implementation, Enforcement, and Impact: Sit/Lie One Year Later
In 2010, San Francisco voters approved a Sit/Lie ordinance, which makes it illegal for a person to sit or lie on public sidewalks at certain times of the day. In 2012, a group of City Hall Fellows, in consultation with City agencies and community groups, completed a public policy evaluation of San Francisco’s Sit/Lie Ordinance. The report documents how the ordinance has been implemented since March 2011 and specifically analyzes the impact the Sit/Lie ordinance has had in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.
