Greetings Summer Learning Network members,
As June comes to a close we have some exciting opportunities to share with you.
Oh the Places You Can Go…
As mentioned in an earlier email, the National Park Service is offering the Summer Learning Network a total of FIVE free passes to visit Alcatraz this summer (note- 5 passes for the Network, not for each program). Since there are a lot more than 5 programs in the SLN, if you would like to put your “name in the hat” to get your hands on one of these passes, please fill out the online lottery at this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dHFFRUpsc2lSZVVNaXc1T05Mc2tQUFE6MA. Entries must be received by July 4, 2012.
Each trip can accommodate 25 youth and a minimum of 3 adults. The trip includes the ferry ride out to the island and an audio tour of the site. Winners will be announced in early July. (Kudos to SLN member, Josh Gannis of Crissy Field, for coordinating this opportunity!)
Go to the Theater (middle school and teens only) Time Sensitive- contact by noon on June 29
The American Conservatory Theater (ACT) has graciously offered free tickets to evening and matinee performances of the Tony-nominated play, The Scottsboro Boys. Tickets are available for evening performances July 3–8 and matinees on July 7 and 8. A limited number of tickets are available.
Representatives from Summer Learning Network organizations can contact Edward Budworth [email@example.com] to learn more about this opportunity.
Please note that this show is appropriate for middle school and teens only.
More information about The Scottsboro Boys can be found here: http://www.act-sf.org/1112/scottsboroboys/index.html
Every Thursday, Mission neighborhood-based garden and natural-sciences store, Paxton Gate, hosts a story time from 11am to Noon. Paxton Gate works with local authors and story tellers to provide free entertainment. For more info call Paxton Gate Curiosities for Kids at 252-9990 or visit http://www.paxtongate.com/events-storytime.aspx
One of your responsibilities as an SLN member is to post information about your summer program on SFKids.org so that families and youth can know about their summer program options. Go to:
Please make sure that sites include:
· Dates of summer camps/programs
· Location, if different from organization address
· Ages served
· Days/Times of summer camps/programs
· Cost; including whether or not financial assistance is offered
· Extended care hours and cost, if any
Please remember to post your program’s information on SFKids.org to be eligible for additional Muni Passes
If your program requested more MUNI passes than you received (which is pretty much everyone), your program may be eligible for 1-3 more passes if your site is listed on SFKids.org by July 5, 2012.
Have a great summer!
