Friends, Family, Neighbors & Colleagues,
Hiram Lawrence, Jr., not yet 2 years old, Carlitos Nava, 3 years old, and Gabriel Martinez, 5 years old – all killed by gun violence in Oakland. You have no doubt read about these tragedies. Babies killed in a city overwhelmed by violence. Behind the headlines and the hundred plus other homicides that occurred in Oakland last year, was Marilyn Harris and her staff of the Khadafy Washington Foundation for Non-Violence working with each of those families, providing Help, Hope and Healing.
For over ten years, the Khadafy Washington Foundation for Non-Violence (KWFNV) has been heroically helping Oakland families get through the pain of losing of a loved one to homicide. KWFNV was founded by my friend Marilyn Washington-Harris, who tragically lost her own son, Khadafy in 2000. Through support given to KWFNV, Marilyn and her staff are able to go out, regardless of the hour, comfort families and walk them through the grieving process.
The Khadafy Washington Foundation for Non-Violence invites you to the 11th Year Reception and Gala Fundraiser ‘Out of the Ashes: Celebrating 11 Years of Service’, on Thursday, March 1st from 5:30PM – 8:00PM at Scott’s Seafood Restaurant, Jack London Square, 2 Broadway in Oakland, CA. We would like you to join us and Attorney General, Kamala Harris, in commemorating the Foundation’s 11th anniversary as we honor long time Oakland hero Cornell Meier.
Your support will go to Marilyn’s life saving work in the community, stopping retributions and ensuring grieving, often low income families get the immediate and long term support they need.
