Immigration policy and politics:
How local politics can make a big difference in shaping a policy agenda
Come hear San Francisco District 9 Supervisor David Campos discuss the interrelationship between politics and policy on one of the most important policy debates in the nation. Supervisor Campos has been one of the leading proponents of San Francisco’s Sanctuary City policy, and has sought to expand its protections to documented and undocumented immigrants alike. Supervisor Campos will talk about his own experience on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and how he uses his position (and his personal history) to advance legislation and policy on immigration and other issues.
A former undocumented immigrant himself, Supervisor Campos attended Stanford University and Harvard Law School. He worked as a private attorney and served as lead council for San Francisco Unified School District before being elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2008. Named a Local Hero by the San Francisco Bay Guardian in 2010, Supervisor Campos’ district includes the Mission and Bernal Heights.
This event is sponsored by the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good.
