Temporary-Exempt/As-Needed:  Temporary exempt as-needed appointments may not exceed 1040 hours within a continuous 12-month period.

Under supervision, College Summer Interns will assist in the performance of a variety of duties related to the functions of the assigned Airport Commission sections.  Duties may include:  performing complex tasks on a limited basis in direct support of professional and skilled staff; researching and compiling data; assisting in the preparation of reports and documents; assisting in the implementation of programs, and other duties as assigned.  To see participating Airport sections and full Internship descriptions please refer to 2012 Student Intern Application. College Summer Interns Alumni may re-apply for the internship but cannot be considered for the same section(s) the intern has previously interned with.  SFO High School Intern Alumni may apply for offices they have previously interned with. We anticipate starting the interview process in April 2012 and the program to start in June or July 2012 depending on school schedules. College Summer Interns must be enrolled in an accredited college undergraduate or graduate degree program for Fall 2012. College matriculation or school transcripts for Fall 2012 may be requested at a later time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: As Needed. Full-time, summer only internships limited to 10 weeks.  Program scheduled to begin in June or July 2012 depending on school schedule.  Typical schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. but may include weekend or shift hours depending on assignment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. The applicant must have completed one year (equivalent to 30 semester units or 45 quarter units) of education from an accredited college or university; AND 2.  Applicant must be returning to their undergraduate program or entering a graduate program in Fall 2012

SELECTION PROCEDURES: The selection process will include evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the interview.  Depending on the number of applicants, the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Department will be invited for an interview.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance: Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission whose job duties require unescorted Air Operations Area (AOA) access or sterile area access will be required to undergo a criminal history record check, including FBI fingerprints and Security Threat Assessment, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and will be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening.  Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination.  Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.
