The purpose of this announcement is to fill 3 vacant positions in this classification.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s (SFMTA) Security Division is currently accepting applications for temporary exempt appointments in Class 9916 – Public Service Aide, for the SFMTA System Safety Section.
The positions in the Public Service Aide series are designed to offer security and customer service training. These positions provide an introduction to career objectives and mentoring by role models while allowing incumbents to learn about the transit work environment. Some positions may be allocated for participants in special programs designed to reach disadvantaged individuals, those who have encountered difficulty in obtaining employment, or other special populations.
DUTIES: Under direct supervision, the Public Service Aide provides support to the Manager of SFMTA System Safety in the following areas: perform basic data entry; collect and compile public transit information such as revenue vehicle accident and employee injury data; enter compiled data into TransitSafe computer program; handle a wide range of confidential information related to transit incidents; write daily and weekly reports; update project logs, and maintain and generate project documentation; answer and screen telephone calls; sort mail; organize and maintain official files and records, archives, manuals, databases and resource materials; greet visitors; search and provide information for inquiries; candidates may be required to work weekends, holidays, part time, nights, and/or overtime.;perform other duties as required.
1. A high school diploma or GED equivalent; AND
2. Six (6) months of community service, AND MUST be referred through a community-based organization; OR
3. One (1) year of any paid/unpaid work experience; AND
4. At least 21 years of age.
NOTES: A community-based organization is a non-profit organization providing services to the community. Some examples of community-based organizations are: Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE) Arriba Juntos, PICS (Private Industry Council of San Francisco), RAP (Real Alternative Program), Samoan Community Development Center, and Young Community Development.
· Working knowledge of TransitSafe Program
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 including Word, Excel, and email programs
· Experience with a large public service or government agency
· Experience handling confidential legal materials
· Ability to work independently and as a team member
· Ability to work flexible hours
· Good written and verbal communication skills
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS
All City and County of San Francisco employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
