Building Youth Leadership: Youth Development Building Blocks

Traditional youth programs have often struggled to find meaningful ways for youth to lead programs. DCYF’s Youth Empowerment Fund is sponsoring a training series to help adult allies learn how to better engage youth in their programs. The trainings will provide instructions on supporting young people to develop their own voices, their own solutions to community issues, and their own programming. Trainings are meant for adult staff who currently coordinate or direct youth programs and with basic to intermediate experience in youth development. Training topics include:

·        Responsive Youth Development (Oct 18 + 25)

·        Youth Development Principles: ‘Old School’ to New (Nov 15)

·        Healthy Relationships: Boundaries and Expressions (Nov 22)

·        Race, Class & Gender: In the Mirror (Dec 6)

·        Facilitating Unlearning Oppression Workshops for Youth (Dec 13)
