As you may know, 3,000 delegates of the 21-member Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) will be in San Francisco September 11 -25 for Senior Officials Meetings in the lead-up to the APEC Leaders Meeting hosted by President Barack Obama in Honolulu in November.

The Senior Officials Meeting is designed for Foreign Ministers, government trade and economic officials, and invited representatives from the private sector.

As part of these meetings, Secretary Hillary Clinton is convening, for the first time, the Women and the Economy Summit, September 14-16 to address 4 key themes: Access to Capital, Access to Markets, Skills and Capacity Building, and Women’s Leadership.

*CEDAW, the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, is an international bill of rights for women.  In 1998, San Francisco became the first city in the world to adopt a local CEDAW Ordinance.

The CEDAW Women’s Human Rights Awards distinguish leaders and organizations who use their public roles to advance the rights of women.  Awards are given for leadership demonstrated in multiple sectors of the community, including education, entrepreneurship, government, health, labor, media and philanthropy which represent the CEDAW principles.
