About Upward Bound
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. The national goal of the Upward Bound Project is to prepare high school students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in college.
The University of San Francisco Upward Bound Project offers two programs — The Upward Bound Classic Program and the Upward Bound Math and Science Program. The Upward Bound Classic Program has operated continuously since 1966. The Upward Bound Math and Science Program began in 2007; it was designed specifically to prepare students for college majors and careers focused on “STEM” fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Ninety percent (90%) of all Upward Bound students who complete our program enter college. The University of San Francisco Upward Bound Program is a federally funded program hosted by the University of San Francisco.
