Being Homeless is NOT a Crime

At last month’s HVNA Public Safety Committee meeting, many groups and city officials were represented as the community asked for guidance dealing with the homeless situation and general crime in our neighborhood.

For residents, call: 311 (for non-emergency local government services). Be sure to get a Tracking #.

  • Trash cans emptied and spread on sidewalks and streets
  • Sleeping in doorways
  • Sleeping in parks and public spaces
  • Encampments

For businesses, call: 553-0123 (for non-emergency police services). Be sure to get a CAD #.

  • Sleeping in doorways
  • Sleeping in parking lots
  • Encampments
  • Trashing of cans in progress

If you are seeing repeat situations such as those listed below, you can call 311 or 553-0123:

  • Raiding Trash Cans and Dumping Trash on the Street
  • Creating a disturbance – voices or car stereos
  • Drug sales or use
  • Drinking in public
  • Loitering in areas with MPC 25 signs
  • Unaccompanied minors out after 10:00pm
  • Unsupervised minors endangering themselves and others

If you see a crime in progress or need other emergency services such as fire or medical, call 911.
