Beat the Odds Honorees

Applications are now due February 8, 2011, 5pm, for the Los Angeles Beat the Odds Scholarship, which honors outstanding high school students who have overcome tremendous adversity, demonstrated academic excellence and given back to their communities. Nomination packets are available online. Los Angeles County high school juniors are encouraged to apply via nomination by a teacher, counselor, caseworker, coach or other adult who can speak to the nominee’s character, academic success and community service, despite the tremendous obstacles he/she works to overcome every day. If selected, scholarship recipients receive $10,000 for college as well as a host of support services that include intensive SAT preparation, case management services and college counseling.

The nomination packet must be completed by both the nominator and the scholarship applicant and emailed todfisher@childrensdefense.org by February 8, 2011 at 5pm.
