San Francisco School Alliance (SFSA) is excited to announce that the Maisin Scholar Award Program is now accepting applications for 2011.  This year SFSA has launched an online application process to streamline outreach efforts to reach more students.  Throughout the years, the Maisin Award has provided support for students to overcome financial barriers that stand between them and their pursuit of higher education. SFSA is eager to partner with community organizations once again to identify students who would benefit most from this scholarship.

The Maisin Scholar Award supports students who want and deserve to continue their education, but whose strengths may not be reflected in their academic performance. The ideal Maisin Scholar is an economically disadvantaged SFUSD senior, with a 2.0 to 3.5 GPA, who is committed to continuing their education in traditional or nontraditional ways. Annually, seventy-five SFUSD seniors are selected to receive scholarships between $1,500 and $2,000, which are renewable for up to four years.

We encourage all eligible students to apply. Our online application can be accessed via the following link:

SFSA is available to come meet with community organizations and their students to share more about the Maisin Scholarship, talk about our new online process, and answer any questions.  Attached an instruction sheet to help community organizations and their students navigate through the online application process.  Please also visit the web site at www.maisinscholars.org, and download additional promotional materials, and resources.  The deadline to submit applications is March 4, 2011.

This year the Maisin Scholar Awards Ceremony will be held at the San Francisco War Memorial (Green Room), on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. More information will follow.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact S.Y. Brunswick, Director of Maisin Scholar Award Program, at 415.955.5790, ext 305.
