The following is an overview of the Health Care Sector Academy Training Program that is recruiting participants for the first quarter of 2011.  Please carefully review each of the program descriptions for eligibility requirements, training dates, and how to apply.  Interested participants must attend an Orientation Session as detailed below.  The earlier participants attend an Orientation Session, the better their chances are for getting into the class. Flyers for each Academy are attached at the base of this message.


Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program
January-May 2011
Four days per week
The CCSF C.N.A. program prepares the student for entry-level employment on the nursing career ladder.  The program is divided into training modules and includes clinical components.  At the end of this program, students will be ready to take the State Certification Exam for Nursing Assistant.
Eligibility and Assessment Requirements:
· Age 18 or older
· Ability to work in the US
· Reading Level- 9th grade or above
· Extremely comfortable with physical proximity to patients
Please note the C.N.A. program is almost full.  Individuals interested in the CNA program MUST attend the Health Care Academy orientation on December 9 at 10:00 at the Chinatown One Stop Center, 601 Jackson Street.

Personal Care Giver/Home Care Training
Training Begins 1st Monday of January 2011, February 2011 and March 2011
2.5 weeks (75 hours training)
9:30am to 3:30pm
The Training Academy for Personal Care Givers & Assistants (TAPCA) is a 75-hour basic introductory course for personal caregivers.  The course includes 23 modules that focus on key concepts of Personal Care.
Eligibility and Assessment Requirements:
· Age 18 or older
· Ability to work in the US
· 4th grade reading level

Bilingual (Chinese) Home Health Aide Training
Monday-Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m.
11 weeks beginning in March 2011
Self-Help for the Elderly’s Home Health Aide Training program provides training on topics including Human Anatomy and Physiology, Physiological and Psychological Changes in the Elderly, Common Diseases and Disease Control, First Aide & CPR internship opportunity, as well as (Chinese language) VESL training to equip participants for a career in Home Health Aide.
Eligibility and Assessment Requirements:
· Age 18 or older
· Ability to work in the US

Healthcare Bridge Program
Program will begin in February 2011
20 hours per week classroom training plus 10 hours/week internship.
The JVS Healthcare Bridge Program provides participants with career exploration, entry level skill building, and paid internships in the healthcare field. The goal of the program is to build participants’ academic and work skills so they are ready for entry into a healthcare certificate or training program.
Eligibility and Assessment Requirements:
· 17-21 years old
· Ability to work in the U.S.
· Low income
· 8th grade reading level
The Healthcare Bridge Program Orientation will be held at JVS on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting on January 10, 2011 at 2:00 at 225 Bush Street, West Lobby, 4th floor (No orientation on January 17).
